Update

Hi all. I know I haven't updated my blog in forever but I haven't done anything fabulous that I thought I should write about. Anyways, I'll just give a routine update.

At the beginning of the month we went to Utah for Lisa's wedding and it was great. We got to go to lots of fun wedding stuff, see lots of family, and go through the Manti Temple, which was a highlight for me. It was a very short trip and while we would have liked more time to visit with friends and family, it was a good time. Here's a picture of most of the Corey family from when we were in Utah:

Jeran has been studying like mad for the upcoming oral defense of his candidacy exam grant (the written grant passed - hooray!). He has been staying home a lot of the time just study-study-studying, no thanks to me, I'm sure. Yesterday he made flash cards or amino acids whose structure he has to memorize so I'm going to make a fun drawing/guessing game or something to help him study. :) He'll be so thrilled! Anyways, his defense is the end of next week and then (hopefully!) he'll be done done done with that. After that, it's just working in the lab all summer.

We have a lot of fun stuff planned for this summer. We have a few friends coming in June and then July and we hope to have some family come visit too. Since I am in the YW, I get to go to Girl's Camp and then later we hope to make it to Europe! Wowee! And we will do some work somwhere in there too. Luckily we have pretty flexible work schedules.

Easter Activities

Happy Easter!
Jeran and I did two different things Saturday night for an Easter celebration, of sorts.

Jeran cleared everything out of our shed/storage area and built new, sturdier shelves. There was a lot of stuff in there! This took him all evening but the shelves are marvelous!

After helping with the shelves a bit, I went to a little Easter egg-decorating party. It was great. There were dyes, pipe cleaners, googly eyes, fluff balls, markers, etc. to decorate eggs with. Everyone did something different; there was a judge, a rabbit, the earth, tourists, a future self- portrait, and others. I decided to do a duckling. Or a chick. Or some sort of bird. Here it is:

My favorite road

Since moving to Durham, NC, I have come to really enjoy the area and its beauty. I love the greenness and the trees and the vines. There is one road in particular near where we live that I have fallen in love with. It is called Massey Chapel Road and I get to drive on it almost every day.

It starts out with some lovely, cute, nice little houses with awesome country yards.

Then you go around a bend and it becomes very pastoral. There is an old shed or barn with flowering vines growing all over it.

Across the road from the building is a pasture sloping down to a small lake. There are usually some nice cows and a few horses grazing in this pasture, as well as many geese that stop by. Down the road a bit there is a Volunteer Agricultural Farm with lots of mature grape vines and lots of garden space and a pond.

Then there is a lot of trees (which are basically everywhere along most roads) and a creek - Jeran rescued a turtle crossing the road by this creek once. There is a power line alley through the trees with an old blue bus posing in it.

Further along there are some more country houses. There is one house that Jeran and I would consider buying if it were for sale and we were feeling brave. Think Joe Dupnick. Ah, what potential. Anyhow, I love this road and the beautiful drive it is.

A new bike

I got a bike. We drove through lots of pouring rain Thursday night to get it. It's a decent bike that should do for my purposes. Those would be to:
  • ride to the mailbox (3 minutes walk away)
  • ride to the library (8 minutes walk away)
  • ride to a friends house (9-25 minutes walk away)
  • exercise (sigh....)
  • ride around for fun
  • have a bike to take on road trips so we can ride around places.
Most of those things are technically within easy walking distance but it is just so much funner and faster to ride a bike so I am excited. I get impatient with walking to the mailbox because it is slow and I just want to put this letter in and be done with it but Nooooo. I usually end up running.

So, here's my new bike. It's not really new; we got it off Craigslist.

Clues to the game

All right. Here are some clues. I know you guys would know a lot of these songs if you actually heard them.

1. A boy band

7. A classic from a war-related movie

9. From one of my very favorite movies ever

11. It's not The Piano Man

12. One of the most well-known groups from Northern Utah recently; they play concerts in Logan regularly, or at least they did while I was in college there.

7, 17, 12, 13. I am skeptical now of my iPods shuffle abilities because the same song is #7 and 17 and the same artist are #12 and 13.

18. A song from a movie that you might recognize distinctive music from, but I don't think you would recognize the lyrics to any of it. I skip through many specific sections of this trilogy when I watch it.

20. 20 and 24 are from the Curious George soundtrack, which I like very much.

21. From A Walk to Remember soundtrack, and no, it's not Switchfoot.

1,18,22: Songs that have the title in the first line

A little game

My friend Bethany did this little game on Facebook and I was bored and decided to do it too even though I was very bad at it when she did it. I put the first line to songs on my iPod down and anyone can leave comments guessing what the title and or artist of the song is and you collectively try to get them all. So here it is. I know I wouldn't even be able to get them all and it's my list but a little challenge is good for the mind.

Also, I have not updated my iPod for a very long time. There are some random mixes on there that were made, I believe, by a person related to me and older than me who shall remain unnamed. This person didn't label the song title or artist so I myself had to look some of these up to find the answer. Good luck.

Step 1: Put your iTunes or equivalent on shuffle.
Step 2: Post the first line from the first 25 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing.
Step 3: Strikeout the songs when someone guesses correctly.
Step 4: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING

Funny video

I saw this Brian Regan video on a friend's blog and thought it was funny. I like comedy and wanted to share it with you. Ha ha ha.
