Picnic in the Park

We had a very lovely Saturday afternoon at the park. Even though it was overcast and stormed both Friday and Saturday night, it was pleasant enough to allow us to have a cookout at the park with some friends.

After eating, we played a little Kubb. For those who don't know, Kubb is a Swedish lawn game where you throw wooden dowels, attempting to knock over wooden blocks. Wikipedia describes it as a combination of bowling and horseshoes, which I think is pretty accurate. We had a good time and it was definitely nice to be outside at a time when it isn't too hot or too cold.

I'm still getting used to my new camera. It is definitely a vast improvement over our 7 year old cameras that it replaced. These probably all would have been blurry and out of focus before, instead of just the one that Jeran took! :)

Adam was cold, having come straight from a basketball game without a jacket, but the blanket did not hinder his throwing.

Clues to the game

All right. Here are some clues. I know you guys would know a lot of these songs if you actually heard them.

1. A boy band

7. A classic from a war-related movie

9. From one of my very favorite movies ever

11. It's not The Piano Man

12. One of the most well-known groups from Northern Utah recently; they play concerts in Logan regularly, or at least they did while I was in college there.

7, 17, 12, 13. I am skeptical now of my iPods shuffle abilities because the same song is #7 and 17 and the same artist are #12 and 13.

18. A song from a movie that you might recognize distinctive music from, but I don't think you would recognize the lyrics to any of it. I skip through many specific sections of this trilogy when I watch it.

20. 20 and 24 are from the Curious George soundtrack, which I like very much.

21. From A Walk to Remember soundtrack, and no, it's not Switchfoot.

A little game

My friend Bethany did this little game on Facebook and I was bored and decided to do it too even though I was very bad at it when she did it. I put the first line to songs on my iPod down and anyone can leave comments guessing what the title and or artist of the song is and you collectively try to get them all. So here it is. I know I wouldn't even be able to get them all and it's my list but a little challenge is good for the mind.

Also, I have not updated my iPod for a very long time. There are some random mixes on there that were made, I believe, by a person related to me and older than me who shall remain unnamed. This person didn't label the song title or artist so I myself had to look some of these up to find the answer. Good luck.

Step 1: Put your iTunes or equivalent on shuffle.
Step 2: Post the first line from the first 25 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing.
Step 3: Strikeout the songs when someone guesses correctly.
Step 4: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING

Favorite computer games

So I am going to tell you about my current favorite computer games. There are so many! :) There are two main places I go these days to play those little online games when I am bored. First is a wonderful website, Free World Group Games, that is a collection of all sorts of flash games.

There are a lot at this site that I really like but by far the best is Bloons (and Bloons 2 and 3). It is a tower defense game where colored balloons of varying strength, speed, and quantity flow along a course and you try to pop them all with your monkey or dart towers before they make it off the screen.

Another fun tower defense type of game is Ant Buster, in which ants come to your picnic and steal pieces of cake. You place towers to stop them getting the cake back to their hole. You lose when all your cake is gone.

Yet another really fun game at that site is Big Bucks, which is like Monopoly against the computer but faster and more automated and all everything happens simultaneously.

Some other good ones are Garden Inventor, Arachnophilia, QBeez, Beseiged, Orb Attack, Crazy Tracker, Glowstones, Pathfinder, Sprinster, Frantic, Power Pool, Gravity Master, Tiny Trials, Youda Farmer......... I could go on for a good while longer. If you can't find these games, you type in the name on the search box on the right-hand side of the screen that says "Search site" and it should come up.

Another good place for quick online games is an app on Facebook called MindJolt Games. It has tons of easy little games. My favorites are Brain Bones, which is a dice strategy game, and Bubble Spinner, which is really fun and addictive. In Bubble Spinner, you shoot a bubble at a wheel that spins a little when you hit it and when you get 3+ bubbles of the same color, they pop. You can't let the bubbles hit the side of the screen or you lose. It's a good one.
